Question Answer
What is a cash bond? A cash bond is a type of bail bond. The full amount of the bail ordered is paid to release a person from custody. A cash bond must be paid with either cash or money order.
What happens to my cash bond if I fail to appear for my court date? If any court dates are missed, the judge can order the bond to be forfeited.
How do I get my cash bond back? Cash bonds are held until your court case is complete or a cash bond surrender is done. When paperwork is received by the Criminal Fines Department for one of the above actions, the Clerk will process and mail the balance of the cash bond back to the depositor.
Can my cash bond be applied towards my fine? Section 939.17 of the Florida Statutes authorizes the Clerk, under the direction of the Court, to deduct any court fines and costs from the cash bond. Any balance remaining after payment of fines will be refunded to the depositor.
How do I change my address on my cash bond? Provided that you are the actual depositor of the cash bond, you can either print the on-line Change of Address form and submit it to the Clerk’s office or come to the Clerk’s office and see the Criminal Fines Department.
How do I surrender a cash bond?

1. The defendant must currently be in jail to have a cash bond surrendered. The paperwork is handled through the jail and submitted to the Clerk’s office.

2. If you are the depositor, take the blue copy of the cash bond to the jail.

3. If you cannot locate the blue copy, you must first come to the Criminal Fines Department at the Clerk’s office and get a certified copy of the cash bond and then take the certified copy to the jail.

The jail will not process a surrender without one of the above.
Where does my cash bond go when I bond out of Manatee County Jail on another county’s charge? The cash bond and its money will be forwarded to the county in question. Likewise, if you bond out of another county’s jail on a Manatee County charge, that paperwork will be forwarded to Manatee County.
How do I assign my cash bond to someone else? Provided that you are the actual depositor of the cash bond, you can either use the on-line “Assignment of Cash Bond” form and submit it to the Clerk’s office or come to the Criminal Fines Department of the Clerk’s office to fill one out.
