Teen Court Clerk

Court Clerk  
   
Responsibilities for the Court Clerk include:  
  • Swearing in the jury
  • Swearing in the defendant, if asked to do so by the Judge
  • Calling the cases
  • Recording the time on the dockets
  • Giving the sentence form to the Bailiff
  • Recording the disposition of the case on the docket

Responsibilities for the Bailiff include:  
  • Assisting the Judge
  • Maintaining order in the courtroom at all times
  • Seating the jurors in the jury box
  • Seating the defendants and the defendant's parents
  • Announcing the Judge and calling the Court to order
  • Obtaining the sentence form from the Court Clerk
  • Showing the jury to the deliberation room
  • Escorting the jurors back to the jury box
 

 

 

Teen Court Prosecuting Attorney

Responsiblities for the Prosecuting Attorney include:  
  • Seeking justice and arguing for a sentence that is appropriate to the severity of the case
  • Preparing for the case
  • Giving an opening statement
  • Questioning the defendant
  • Cross-examining the defendant
  • Providing a closing argument

Responsibilities for the Defense Attorney include:
  • Presenting the defendant in the best possible light.
  • Preparing for the case
  • Giving an opening statement
  • Questioning the defendant
  • Cross-examining the defendant

Responsibilities for the Jurors include:
  • Determining appropriate and fair consequences for the defendant
  • Listening carefully to the facts of the case
  • Paying close attention to the questioning of the defendant
  • Determining the consequences to hold the defendant responsible and accountable for his/her actions to the community
  • Treating each case individually and without prejudice

Adult volunteers are always welcome at Teen Court. This volunteer is reviewing a contract with a Teen Court participant.
